The number one question on the mind of every Kansas City Chiefs fan will remain a question, at least for another two days.
“Is Eric Berry healthy?”
The first question asked to head coach Andy Reid on Monday was whether or not he expected the Chiefs safety to play against the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday.
“Yeah, we’ll see—day to day,” Reid said, almost feebly. “We’ll see how it goes.”
Berry has not appeared on the field for the Chiefs since Saturday, August 11, as he continues to deal with a sore heel. Chiefs vice president of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder is expected to provide more clarity on the situation in a statement on Wednesday.
The Chiefs could be taking extra caution with Berry due to his injury history—Berry missed nearly all of last season when he ruptured his Achilles in the Week 1 opening-night win over the New England Patriots. For what it’s worth, the recent soreness is reportedly in Berry’s opposite heel.
If Berry can’t go, I’d expect the Chiefs to start the returning Ron Parker and either Eric Murray or Armani Watts. Jordan Lucas, who the Chiefs acquired from the Miami Dolphins on Friday night, would provide depth.
Where is your level of concern when it comes to the health of Eric Berry?
