2018 fantasy football draft tiers: Quarterbacks | NFL

Tier Four – Rounds 13-15

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Notes: Goff ranked 12th in fantasy points among quarterbacks a season ago, but did he hit his ceiling in an offense that will lean on Todd Gurley and the run? To me, he’s a ‘tweener at tiers three and four. … Mahomes has a high ceiling with his big arm and big weapons as the new head man in Kansas City, but his lack of experience at the pro level limits his overall value a bit. … Smith is coming off his best fantasy season ever, and he’s in a good spot to succeed. Admittedly, I might have him ranked a little too low but there’s time for an adjustment if he looks good in the preseason. … Prescott’s stock has fallen after the loss of Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. … Mariota was a favorite breakout candidate of mine last season (doh!), but I might have been one season too soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumped up a few tiers once things are all said and done with the 2018 NFL season.

Robert Golden: “I am no longer a Kansas City Chief”

Safety Robert Golden is no longer a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, according to two tweets from his official Twitter account.

Mahomes’ growth depends on strong offensive line | 41 Action News

The new football smell has worn off on the 2018 preseason with the first preseason game in the books. A couple of focal points showed up during the Texans game that are worthy of being monitored throughout the preseason. The Chiefs season will depend on the growth of these areas.

What to watch for in Week 2 of the NFL preseason | NFL

Chiefs (0-1): Kansas City is counting on its offensive line to ease the transition into the post-Alex Smith era, and it struggled last week. Patrick Mahomes was hit on four of his nine snaps playing with the veteran-laden first-team O-line against a tough Texans front. Sammy Watkins could make his debut after a hip issue sidelined him for the opener. Charcandrick West (concussion) returned to practice last week and might see playing time as he looks to begin his battle against Spencer Ware and Damien Williams for the No. 2 running back spot. Dee Ford figures to see scant, if any, playing time, allowing Breeland Speaks and Tanoh Kpassagnon another opportunity to show if they’re capable of usurping the veteran at outside linebacker.

Dan Quinn: Expectations, standards made clear in practice as Falcons prepare for the Chiefs | Atlanta Falcons

“I felt it crisp and sharp,” Quinn said of the practice energy this week. “But that’s only part of it. The next part is bringing that intensity and energy right up to the game. I’m hopeful [we can do that]. Our fans certainly deserve that, and we’re going to deliver on that end.”

Changes and all, Chiefs’ defense still a work in progress | ESPN

“We’re going to stop that run,” Ragland said. “We’re going to stop it this year. Everybody has the right mindset. … That line, that wall, is there. We’ve got the guys to do it. But at the end of the day, it’s all about attitude when you want to stop the run. You’ve got to want to do that.”

Really? Folks Are Upset About Some Crazy Things | 610 Sports Radio

After taking a few days to digest the first preseason game, the biggest thing that I am taking away is fans are overreacting…in a BIG way. After one preseason game, its time to chill out, relax and just look forward to the opener in September because nothing that happens during the preseason, except injury, really matters. The good, bad and ugly from NFL joint practices | SB Nation

Joint practices during NFL training camps have become common in recent years. In the days leading up to a preseason game, teams facing off will often organize practices and/or a scrimmage against their opponent, with fans invited to check out the action. But are joint practices good? Are they bad? Are they irrelevant? Let’s take a look at some of the action that’s taken place during the joint practices so far this summer.

The Technological Revolution Has Finally Hit the NFL—and the Vikings Are Ready | The Ringer

Even the smallest innovations can seem like revolutions in the NFL, so even the Vikings themselves felt weird about ditching magnets. “For as long as I’ve been in this business, we’ve used magnets. I was very wary about [the change],” said Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman. Away with magnets, and into the future.

The man called ‘Groot’ is trying to become tallest NFL player in more than 40 years | NOLA.com

One of the best parts about being Nate Wozniak, according to Nate Wozniak, is the nicknames.

They come easily for the New Orleans Saints’ rookie offensive tackle, because it is not often a player comes around who towers over the rest of the large humans on the roster — and yes, at 6-foot-10, Wozniak’s helmet is easy to spot amongst the rest of the trees in the Saints offensive line group.

Hue Jackson indicates he may make Drew Stanton his No. 2 QB over Baker Mayfield | CBS Sports

After Baker Mayfield’s impressive preseason debut last week, the NFL community wondered if the Browns might be better off starting the No. 1 overall pick over the current starter, Tyrod Taylor. Internally, the Browns aren’t even considering playing Mayfield over Taylor. Instead, they’re wondering if they’re better off picking Drew Stanton — not Baker Mayfield — to be Taylor’s direct backup.

Stout Assessments: Run fits in the 4-2-5 defense

You see… by putting an inferior run defender in the box, teams have been able to rip off huge chunks of yardage against the Chiefs dime defense time and time again.
