His latest comes in the form of a three-year contract with Hy-Vee that will include commercials, in-store advertising, apparel and exclusive product branding.
While the details of what those will entail have yet to be released, one highly-anticipated item Chiefs fans can expect to see is — you guessed it — cereal.
In addition to cereal, Mahomes’ new merchandise line, which launched online in early February, will be available for purchase in select stores, and in the next few months, Hy-Vee commercials featuring him will also start airing for the NFL pre-season.
“I’m excited to be a part of someone that’s more than just a retail store,” Mahomes told Lihn Tan of the Des Moines Register. “It’s an easy partnership with me.”
While the Chiefs organization itself has had a longstanding sponsorship with the grocery chain since 2009, this specific partnership with Mahomes will benefit his new foundation No. 15 & The Mahomies, which is dedicated to improving the lives of children through supporting initiatives that focus on health, wellness, communities in need of resources and other charitable causes.
“I want to keep aligning myself with great people and great companies,” Mahomes said. “They have the same values of who they give back to with health and nutrition.”
Mahomes was the keynote speaker Tuesday at Hy-Vee’s “Exercising Your Character” event in Des Moines, Iowa, which promoted health and wellness for an audience of 11,000 fourth-and fifth graders from around the area through lots of movement, motivational speeches and dancing.
Mahomes shared the lessons he learned growing up that helped him get to where he is in his career today, and find the success he has so far.
“The biggest thing I learned from my dad is you have to work hard,” Mahomes told the crowd. “You have to put the work in everyday.”
He also took a trip down memory lane to put himself back in their shoes.
“When I was in fourth grade, I used to make ketchup sandwiches,” he said.
